Welcome back to Channel Chaser! I hope you’ve enjoyed your Fourth of July weekend as much as I have, and now we’re back into this week’s review. In today’s column, I’ll be talking about the mind-bending and definitely ahead of its time drama Twin Peaks. And boy, is it a lot to cover. Let me just preface this review by [Read more…]
It’s an unfortunate fact that not every television program is built to last. But while some shows deserve have their plugs pulled due to inferior content and poor writing, many other vastly superior programs are cancelled through no fault of their own, and despite their maintaining a massive cult following. Presented here, for your consideration, are five cult shows that [Read more…]
Welcome to This Week in Anime… or not. There’s no column this week because I’ve been busy preparing to attend Anime Expo. Expect a a much bigger article than usual next week, complete with news and witty observations from the convention!
Welcome back to Channel Chaser! For this week’s review, I’ll once again be looking back a few years to cover a show that has since ended, although to my great regret. It’s time to talk about Syfy’s quirky sci-fi dramedy Eureka. When it first premiered in 2006, Eureka was more or less an unprecedented phenomenon. While many of its fellow [Read more…]
Well…that was anticlimactic. Anyway, welcome to another edition of Channel Chaser. I just thought I’d express my disappointment right away so there’s no doubt in your minds as to how I felt about the end of this season of Game of Thrones. And it’s not just that it wasn’t a good finale episode, either: this whole season, in my view, [Read more…]
Ensemble casts pose an interesting challenge, both for anime and for fiction in general. When they work, they work incredibly well. Welcome back to Channel Chaser! I’ve been dying to do it for a while, but now that the season is over I can finally address it knowing everything I need to know. That’s right: today I’ll be talking about the CW’s newest super-powered hit, The Flash! I’m sure anyone who knows even a little about comics doesn’t really need to [Read more…]
Man, this has been a rough season for anime. We’ve had one or two really strong shows, a few decent ones, and an awful lot of vaguely promising titles that have run out of gas several weeks early. One of the stronger occupants of the middle category is Sound! Euphonium, the latest “cute girls play musical instruments” series from Kyoto [Read more…]
Welcome back to another edition of Channel Chaser! I’ve recently been taking a trip in the way, way, way back machine of Netflix to enjoy the 60’s-era sci-fi classic Star Trek (that’s the Original Series for you uninitiated). I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: in spite of the cheesy special effects and sometimes wooden acting, Star Trek [Read more…]
Welcome to another edition of Channel Chaser! Well, I finally swallowed my pride and completed my long-overdue viewing of Netflix’s fourth season of the former TV sitcom Arrested Development. I was such a huge fan of the show during its run, and then was so disappointed by its lackluster return online, that for a long time I refused to have [Read more…]
