There\u2019s licensing news for some big-name titles, and as always we\u2019ve got some simulcasts and physical media to check out. Power up your giant robot, because it\u2019s time for This Week in Anime.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Simulcast of the Week: <em>Aldnoah.Zero<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>We had to talk about it at some point, right? <em>Aldnoah.Zero<\/em> is this season\u2019s big, shiny sci fi mecha show. It\u2019s got high production values, lofty storytelling ambitions, and otaku favorite Gen Urobuchi is at the helm. Say goodbye to that spotlight, <em>Captain Earth<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sharkpuppet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Aldnoah.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1285 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/sharkpuppet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Aldnoah.jpg\" alt=\"Aldnoah\" width=\"620\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sharkpuppet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Aldnoah.jpg 620w, http:\/\/sharkpuppet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Aldnoah-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Putting aside the whole Earth vs. Mars space opera, one of the things I like about this series is that it shows some common sense amongst all its apocalyptic grandeur. It feels like someone actually took the time to think about how giant robots might work, not to mention what people would actually do in the midst of an interplanetary war. Not convinced? Give it a shot up to episode three, which offers a Martian princess brandishing a grenade launcher and the first example of sane military tactics I\u2019ve seen in an anime series since <em>Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid<\/em>. Stream! <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crunchyroll.com\/aldnoah-zero\">Crunchyroll<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Physical Release of the Week: <em>Sword Art Online<\/em> Novel 2<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sharkpuppet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/SAOBook.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1438 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/sharkpuppet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/SAOBook.jpg\" alt=\"SAOBook\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sharkpuppet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/SAOBook.jpg 600w, http:\/\/sharkpuppet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/SAOBook-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s this? A book? With more text than pictures? Be still my heart. Yes, the ever-popular <em>SAO<\/em> franchise is one of the flagships for a new line of translated novels from Yen Press. If you love the anime, here\u2019s your chance to read the original work. If, like me, you think <em>SAO<\/em> is just OK, buy it anyway to encourage more publishers to bring over light novels. Remember, sales figures influence publishers\u2019 future licensing decisions. First up: good \u2018ol <em>Hellsing Ultimate<\/em>. The delightfully violent vampire OVA <a href=\"http:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/news\/2014-08-23\/hellsing-ultimate-ova-joins-adult-swim-toonami-block\/.77955\">is coming to US television<\/a>, courtesy of Cartoon Network\u2019s Toonami programming block. The series will take over the time slot currently occupied by <em>Black Lagoon<\/em>, and will start September 13<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 For bonus points, Funimation will be releasing the final two episodes in the series this October.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/074Id3AesL4?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>For those of you who prefer things a little less action-packed, Sekai Project <a href=\"http:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/news\/2014-08-24\/sekai-project-to-offer-clannad-visual-novel-full-voice-edition-on-steam\/.77966\">announced<\/a> that they\u2019ll be releasing the <em>Clannad<\/em> visual novel through Steam, complete with voice-overs. There\u2019s no official release date as of yet, but it\u2019s good news for fans of the classic Key tear-jerker.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All right, that\u2019s another week down.
